Where do we Train?

The Club trains at two purpose built track facilities.

Northampton : Sixfields Community Stadium, Northampton

The Clubhouses are sited at each track and any matters relating to events, teams, results or of general athletic interest are posted there on the notice board. Drinks and light refreshments are available at training times and parents and friends are encouraged to use the facilities.

How do I join?

The Club provides training from the age of 8 years upwards.
There may be a waiting list in some groups.

Rugby
The club runs a feeder group on Saturdays 9:30 to 10:30am for athletes up to Age 11.
(Primary School Age). Cost £1 per session.

The aim of feeder sessions is to:

  • Ensure the athlete is able to understand and carry out planned activities.
  • Learn the basics of all track and field events using suitable equipment for their age and ability.
  • Learn how to move around the track and field safely.
  • Ensure the athletes develop the basic fitness levels required to be able to join main group activities safely.
  • Evaluate the athlete with a view to ensuring they are placed in the correct group for their age and ability.
  • Minimise disruption to existing groups and training programmes by new athletes joining continually throughout the year. Make the athletes introduction to athletics fun!

Athletes tend to be integrated into the main group structure periodically throughout the year. Before integration, an assessment is usually held to assist placing athletes in the correct group. This information is also used as a starting point to monitor progress. Assessment consists of 75m Sprint, 600m, Long Jump, 1kg shot

In some cases athletes can be moved straight to a group.

For athletes aged 12 and above (Secondary School) group placement is by assessment or known performances.
