CLUB CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS

The Club Cross Country Championships for Senior,Veteran and Junior Men is a long Running competiton started by Northampton Phoenix in the late seventies. At first it consisted Of just one race round Abington Park, but in the early eighties this was extended to  five races Bringing in the four Icknield League and County Champs as part of the Championships.

In the 1985-86 season Northampton Phoenix re-entered the Birmingham League in the Newly formed Division four. The Club Champs, then included the 4 Birmingham Leagues As well as the four Icknield Leagues. After a few seasons the Icknield League was then scrapped From the Champs. The current format for the Club Championships is based on seven races,  four Birmingham League, County Champs, Midland Champs and National Champs. A competitor must complete at least Five of these races to be included, with the best 5 club positions counting towards the final total. Over the years the Senior Champion has usually been the no.1 distance runner from the club At that particular time, but must also show commitment to the club by turning out regularly To compete, therefore finishing enough races to earn that distinction of  CLUB CHAMPION.
