Seniors

Road and Distance running

The club competes in both road and off-road events over distances of 5 miles and longer. These include both leagues and open events. There are always prizes for each age-group category as well as often for teams.

Individual club members also compete in Open events in all distances up to the marathon (and occasionally) beyond.

The club also promote 3 open road races each year, the Draycote 5 mile in the spring, the Rugby 6 mile in May and the Rugby 10 mile in November. The club is also lucky enough to have the use of two excellent Cross-Country courses at Abington Park in Northampton and Princethorpe College near Rugby. The club have an experienced team of event organizers but are always looking for extra help at these events.

Club teams compete at the Midlands & National Road Relay in the spring (12 stage) and autumn (6 stage) each year. These races are usually held at Sutton Park, Birmingham.

During the summer & autumn club teams compete in 3 Road Race Leagues, the East Midlands Grand Prix the Warwickshire Road Race League and the Northamptonshire Road Race League. The Rugby 6 & Rugby 10 or each included in these series and a full list of all club fixtures can be found on the ‘Fixtures’ page.

Where do we Train?

The Club trains at two purpose built track facilities.

Rugby : Next to the Ken Marriot Leisure Centre, Trevor White Drive, Rugby
Northampton : Sixfields Community Stadium, Northampton

The Clubhouses are sited at each track and any matters relating to events, teams, results or of general athletic interest are posted there on the notice board. Drinks and light refreshments are available at training times and members are encouraged to use the facilities. Both clubhouses have full changing and shower facilities

In the winter we train on quiet streets or well-lit hard surfaced paths, as the daylight gets longer we move to training more on grass, through late spring, summer and early autumn. Coming back to the streets as autumn ends.

Can I just turn up?

Of course, come to one of the venues a little before the session start time and we would be pleased to see you and explain more. You are welcome to join a few sessions just to ‘get to know us’ but after a few weeks you will be expected to become a club member (not least for insurance purposes). If you are visiting the area for business or on holiday and are a member of another club you are welcome to join our training sessions
