BIRMINGHAM & DISTRICT CROSS COUNTRY LEAGUE

The Senior Men compete in Division One of the Birmingham & District Cross Country League. This is a series of four races starting in October/November and finishing in February. Division One currently consists of 16 teams and is arguably the strongest league in the country including Tipton Harriers, Coventry Godiva and both Loughborough & Birmingham Universities. The races are highly competitive with up to 200 finishers in each race. No individual entry fee is required by club athletes to take part in any of the four races. The first six members across the line will score in the team and there is also a ’B’ team competition for the next six runners to finish. This very popular league has been the main focus of Senior athletes winter season for many years.

MIDLAND WOMENS LEAGUE

The Midland Womens League is a four race series, which takes place at the same venue as one of the three Birmingham League races (Divisions 1,2 or 3).Like the Men’s league it is open to any athlete over the age of 17.The first three Ladies home for the club will score in the team. There is also a masters competition in this league.

COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIPS

Senior athletes can take part in either the Northants or the Warwickshire championships which take place at the start of January each year. This is a team competition but competitors must enter themselves by using the appropriate entry form for their particular county. This race is used as the selection race for the Inter-Counties Championships.

MIDLAND CHAMPIONSHIPS

The cross country team manager handles entries for athletes wishing to take part in the Midland Championships upon on payment of the appropriate entry fee. The race itself is usually slightly longer than the league races, but the scoring system is exactly the same.

NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

The ‘National’ is usually the climax of the cross country season for the Seniors. The race venue has a three year cycle (North, Midlands, South) and there is no limit to the number of club members that can enter. Once again on payment of the correct fee to the team manager is required.

OTHER EVENTS

The club also takes part in Open events organized by MCAA as well as the Charity Cup organized by another local club, Kettering Town Harries. The Charity Cup cross country race is an annual event which takes place at Wicksteed Park, Kettering. The Senior men have won this trophy more times than any other club. There are races for all age groups and athletes can use the appropriate entry form to enter this race.
