The second Young
Athletes match took place last Sunday at the Rugby track.
Once again the athletes all pulled together and proved how important it
is to fill a team sheet.
With some stiff competition from
Wolverhampton and Bilston, Stratford AC and Daventry there was some exciting
athletics but Rugby and Northampton with athletes in almost all events filling
in for points, won the match. In
the Under 17 men Adam Storer won the 200m in 23.5.
Rugby
and Northampton dominated the middle distance in this age group winning all
three races A and B strings. Andy
and Jonathan Brown in the 800m, Tom
Collins and Dan Clowes in the 1500m and Luke Mumford and Andy Ure in the
3000m.
There was success too in the 1500
steeplechase with Robert Gardner and Jack Betts taking first place.
Andy Brown had a superb throw in the javelin 26.15m good enough to win
the A string whilst teammate sprinter Ross Allen won the B string.
The triple jump was won by Daniel Bennett
with a leap of 11.94 and the B string won by Ryan cleaver
There were first positions for Ryan and James Eaton in the 400hurdles.
In the Under 15 boys there was a win by Craig Murch in the 400m with
teammate Luke Storer winning the B string.
Craig
went on to win the shot with a grade 2 performance of 11.54 and the javelin with
a grade 1 throw of 44.10m. The B
string javelin was won by Will Hull.

he 80m hurdles were won by Ben Richards with
a time of 12.3 (gd. 2) with the B string won by James Wright.
James also won the Long Jump with 5.01m with Themba Luhana just behind
with a jump of 4.99m to win the B string.
n the Under 13 boys the 200m was dominated
by the R & N lads with Matt
Fowkes and Jonny Ure both winning. Ben Jennings, improving each race won the
800m in 2.33 and Jonny Ure took the B string.
One of the performances of the day and earning him an athlete of the
match T shirt came from Nic Evangelinos in the hurdles where he won it in a
grade l time of 12.8. Nic Also won
the Long Jump with 4.37m.
There was a win for Matt Fowkes in the shot
with 6.82m. Ben Jennings and Luke
Townsend did the double in the high jump.
In the girls Under 17 age group Sophie Wright ran grade 2 performances to
win the 100m and 200m and was narrowly beaten into 2nd place in the
300m. Sophie Raven won the A
hurdles with Ashia Harris winning the B string.
There were wins from Shelley Hazlewood and
Charlotte Hibbert in the javelin. Shelley also won the triple jump with 10.30m.
Sophie Meakin and Sophie Raven dominated the High Jump both with a height
of 1.50m to win. In the Under 15 age group Charlotte Burrows once again
showed her class winning the 100m in 12.5 – a new club record and 200m in
26.3 with grade l performances.
Monet
Ager won the 100m B string and Lauren Jones the 200m B.
The 1500m was taken by Charlotte Inwood and Emily Waugh and in
the 75hurdles twins Rebecca and Charlotte Davies were hard to separate
but with Rebecca just getting to the line in front.
The 4 x 100m relay team gained another club
record . In the under l3 girls Iona Smith won the B string of the 150m in a grade 2 time of
21.1. and the 75m in 10.5. There
was a win for Hannah Summers in the 800m and a
special mention must go to Sophie Hazlewood who was coerced into running
an 800m and ended up with a PB! Megan
Love won the 1500m in 4m16.2.
Another club record was broken by Kerry
Murch who won the 70m hurdles with 11.9 – a grade 1 performance.
Yasmin Webb won the B string with a PB of 12.4. Kerry also
won the Long Jump with 4.43m. Another
very successful and encouraging day for the club showing its wealth of talent in
the younger age groups. The
next match will be in Corby on June 2nd.
