CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS 2007

Herrington Country Park
in Sunderland played host to the English National Cross Country
Championships for the first time.
The course consisted of
rolling grassland and the very strong winds on the day ensured Dry
underfoot conditions.
The Senior Mens
race was over 12k and making his debut in the race for Rugby &
Northampton was Steve Milner who completed the 3 lap course
in 46 mins 45 secs to Lead home the club in 336th
place.
Vince Carroll became the
Senior Mens Club Champion for the first time when he crossed The
line in 382nd position in a time of 47.34, but in doing so finished
as the second R & N Man
for the sixth time in the National.
Another milestone was
reached by Terry Egan who completed his 20th
National. Egan finished 441st
in 48.47 and has achieved
those 20 races in the last 23 years.
An excellent run from John Saw meant he improved by nearly 400 places
from His one and only previous National five years
ago. His time of 51.14 placed him in 553rd
spot .
Bernie Myers was running
his first National for seven years, but he applied himself well To
finish 640th
in 53.23 and
Adrian White improved from last years best to record a
Time of 55.55 in 740th
place and completed the R & N team.
The squad
finished in 52nd place overall with defending champions Leeds
City Retaining their title
The individual champion was Frank Tickner of Wells City Harriers who
became the First man in 12 years to win the World
Trials, Inter Counties and the National all in the Same
season.
