COMMON
History repeated itself in the Midland Cross Country Championships at
Stafford Common when Holly Avil won the under 17 girls race
for Rugby & Northampton. Her victory by three
seconds made her the Club’s first Midland Champion since Leonna
Widdicks won at a snowy Sutton Coldfield on exactly the same date 11 years ago.
On that occasion Widdicks won the under 13 race, but this
time it was Avill who showed Her class by defeating
Sutton Coldfields Jordan Kinney to claim the title.
The under 15 girls
squad won a well deserved bronze medal (pictured below when Lucy Hall led them home in 8th
Place with 18.40.She was backed up by Noelle Supple ( 18th
in 19.30 ), Kellie Leonard ( 28th in 19.49 ) and Emily
Waugh ( 34th
in 20.01 ).
Charlotte Inwood had a superb run to finish in 5th place in
the under 13 girls race and
Also helped her team to finish in 5th
spot.
The under 17 men just missed out on a medal in 4th position,
but Josh Cardwell had a good run to lead them home in 26th
place with 26.38. While his brother George finished 13th in the under 15 boys
section with 16.37, closely followed by Luke Robinson ( 16th in
16.54 ). Jack Hall was the highest placing for
the club in any of the male races when he claimem 11th place in the under 13
boys race with a time of 12.15.
The Senior Men equalled their best ever placing from nine years ago when
they finished 8th. Leading them home was Matt Almond who
achieved the best ever placing by a Northampton runner when he crossed the line in 38th
place with 44.47.
Paul Birch had an excellent run in 60th spot
with 46.34 and Brendan Moen
continued His recent good form to claim 94th
spot in 48.41. Terry Egan was running in his 20th
Midland Champs and sneaked into the top 100 For the 12th
time in 98th spot
with 49.08.Completing the Mens team was
Brian Summers ( 145th in
51.35 ) and Jamie Sewell
( 173rd in
52.46 ).
