               BIRMINGHAM XC LEAGUE  DIV. 1

                 CHELTENHAM    FEB.17th.

Paul Birch became the eighth Rugby & Northampton athlete to lead home the club Since the merger five years ago when he finished in 59th place in the final fixture of division one of the Birmingham cross country league.

The 35 year old completed the six mile course at Cheletenham’s Pittville Park In a time of 34 mins 29 secs to finish almost two minutes ahead of the next R & N Runner.

There was a real battle further down the field from four of the Club’s stalwarts When only five places covered them. Brendan Moen claimed 86th spot in 36.19, while Vince Carroll produced his Usual  late surge to snatch 88th with 36.33 and Terry Egan sprinted past Brian Summers In the final 100 metres, with the pair finishing 90th  (36.38) and 91st  (36.41 ) respectively.

The most delighted runner of the day was John Saw who made the scoring six for the First time and was the only non-veteran taking part. Saw finished 118th in a time of 40.16. R & N finished 12th on the day, but were 13th and last overall. Due to the fact the league it set to expand in number next year fortunately no teams are relegated this year, however the club will need to look to its young guns for a better team performance next year.

Adrian White produced his highest placing of the season by sprinting over the line In 125th place with 42.29 and rejoining the club after 15 years Steve Childs recorded 43.31 to finish 132nd. Unfortunately, due to the late arrival of four of the club’s athletes the B team was Incomplete.
