indoor combined events championships at Manchester
After a very hard day at the England athletics/midland
counties indoor combined events championships at Manchester Sophie
meakin was victorious in the U17 women's midlands pentathlon scoring
3027 points a personnel best and club record for the pentathlon which
was also good enough to place her 5th in the national championships. with
3 personnel best 60h 9.22, SP 6.88m, 800m 2.39.75 (all club records) and
season bests of 1.56 HJ 5.04 LJ she is proving what a talented youngster
she is and has a bright future in the sport. Her gold medal is added to
the bronze she won at the 200m at the mid counties indoor champs.
The gold being won by Sophie Wright also of rugby and
northants which shows that we have strength and depth in the u17 women for
the first time in a long time.
Also at Manchester were the Davis twins Charlotte and
Rebecca who gave very good account of themselves in their very first
pentathlon in the U15 girls, Charlotte finishing 4th and Rebecca 5th
in the midland counties event. Charlotte scoring 2337 and Rebecca
2256.highlights of their performances were a PB of 9.89 in the 60h for
Rebecca and 2.49.44 in the 800m (club record) and 7.95m in the SP for
Charlotte (club record) and 2.50.47 in the 800m.Looks as though the future
of the club is in good hands as along with the davis sisters
there are many good youngsters coming through the ranks.
