NATIONAL 12 STAGE ROAD RELAY REPORT

 

Rugby & Northampton mens team were in action once again in the 12 stage road relay At Sutton Park, Birmingham. This time it was the National event and although the squad Wasn’t as strong as the recent Midland competiton they equipped themselves well to finish in 56th position.  The fastest man for the club over the long stage was lead off man Christian Strzadala who Is the new Australian recruit. He recorded a time of 30 mins 56 secs for the 5.4 mile leg to Bring  them home in 65th place.

Matt Almond took over on leg 2 and he was the fastest short stage runner when he made up 11 places over the 3 mile course in a time of 15 mins 24 secs. The race continued with alternate long and short stages with Paul Birch recording 31.09 On leg 3 and Tom Causebrook improving from the Midlands with a time of 15.48 on leg 4.  Brian  Summers was next up with a 32.57 clocking followed by Ross Glover returning from Injury with 18.42.Vince Carroll produced another solid run with a time of 31.24 and Ciaran Acford completed leg 8 in 17.42. The next two runners were the oldest in the team with  Terry Egan recording 31.33 and 50 year old Bryan Acford being timed at 20.16. Egan and Acford have notched up well over 1000 races between them.Guy Petersen  completed the last long stage in 31.53 and bringing the team home on the Final leg was John Gercs who jogged round in 20.31.
