Warwickshire Cross Country Championships

The Warks Cross Country Champs took place in torrential rain at Newbold Comyn, Leamington on Saturday. The wind and rain made the muddy hilly conditions including the ascent of the notorious 'Cardiac Hill' even more difficult with almost no firm ground on the course.

Best performances of the day came from Emily Waugh who ran a fine race in a strong field to finish 7thin the U15 Girls race and Ed Hill who continued his improvement and finished strongly to take 9th place in the U17 race which was run in conjunction with the U20 Mens race. Ed was closing on team-mate Stephen Milner who finished 4th in the U20 race, but was fading in the closing stages as the after effects of an Xmas bout of flu took their toll. All three earned selection to run for the County in the CAU championships in March.

Another highly placed finisher was Annette Carlin who finished 4th in the Veteran Ladies category and along with team-mates Sharon Fearn & Julie Gascoigne took third place in the team race. Other tewam results were Ben Jennings, Joe Bagshaw & Rory Bowman-Shaw who took 5th place in U13 Boys and the U17 Men where Ed Hill, Andrew Brown & Jonathon Brown finished 4th.

The Senior Men's race was combined with the veterans and Stephen Emery ran a strong race, gaining positions on each lap to finish 24th whilst Jamie Sewell battled gamely and produced a speedy finish to claim 37th place.

This weekend(13th Jan) the action moves to Coundon Park, Coventry where the club will be competing in the Midland Women's League and Division 1 of the Birmingham League.
