About the club
Rugby & Northampton Athletic Club was formed on April 1st 2002. The Club is a merger between 2
Former Clubs each with a great history, Rugby & District Athletic Club and Northampton Phoenix
Athletic Club. The new Club has a membership of over 650 athletes, coaches and officials, ranging
in age from 8 years old to over 80 years old. There are over 50 active coaches and 40 officials
providing the back up to over 500 athletes.
The Club provides for athletics in all disciplines, from Track & Field to Cross-Country and Road
Running. The Club also caters for all age groups, male and female, starting with introductory athletics
at the age of 8 together with Sportshall competition, proceeding through to National Young Athlete league
competition and then on to Senior National League, and finally to Veteran (Masters) competition.
At Senior level the Club competes at the highest level, and currently ranks in the top 10 Clubs in
the UK for Senior Women, and in the top 25 in the UK for Senior Men. The Senior Women’s team is in
Division 2 of the UK Women’s League.
The Senior Mens team is in Division 3 of the British Athletic League (BAL). In Track & Field the Club
ranks No.2 in the Midlands behind the well-known Birmingham Club, Birchfield Harriers.
The Club also competes in the National Junior League (Severn Division), the National Young Athletes
League (East Midlands Division 1), and the Midland Veterans League.
In Cross-Country the Club is in Division 1 of the Birmingham Cross-Country League, the strongest
Cross-Country League in the UK.
The Club has a number of current and past Internationals within its membership, and has a policy of
developing and encouraging its talented athletes. The Club is very ambitious and looks to the future
with confidence, in the knowledge that it is well prepared to continue its progression upwards in UK
athletics at all age levels.
