Young Athletes

The young athletes from Rugby & Northampton came away with 5 individual and 5 team titles in the Northants Cross Country Championships at Croyland Park in Wellingborough.

Jacob Allen led a clean sweep in the 6k under 17 boys race to win the title in his first year in the age group with a time of 23 mins 16 secs and Joseph Lantsbery also successfully moved up to claim the silver in 23.50, while completing the winning trio was bronze medal winner Ryan Fletcher in 24.07.

Just missing out on the team by 2 seconds was Robert Male in 4th with Jordan Simmons finishing in 8th spot on 25.18.

After finishing 12th last year Natalie Goddard won the under 13 girls title by just one second from her clubmate Charlotte Murphy. Goddard covered the 3k course in 14.37 while Murphy turned last years bronze into silver. Making up the winning team was Kirsty Goddard in 4th place on 15.10. Ciara Moore was just three seconds back in 5th position and last years under 11 champion Constantia Liburd finished 6th in 15.17. Eva Spellman recorded 17.50 in 13th place.

Cameron Roberts was the champion in the under 11 boys event with a time of 8.59 for the 2k race and winning the bronze medal just six seconds adrift was Reece Canavan with Oliver Murphy closing off the winning team in 9.33 for 5th spot. Tom White claimed 7th in 9.46 and Matthew Atherton (13th in 10.58).

The under 15 girls race saw last years runner up Genevieve Roberts clinch the title with a time of 14 mins 38 secs in a close run race, which saw Bethan Goddard win bronze just three seconds behind the winner. Alison Inwood covered the 3500m course in 15.53 for 7th position to complete another team title for R&N. This age group had eight athletes taking part for the club and crossing the line next was Katie Clubb (8th in 16.16),then came Megan Exley (9th in 16.55), Emily Byrd (11th in 17.51), Phinolla Hindle (12th in 19.08) and Emily Valentine (13th in 19.18).

Sarah Bennett was the champion 12 months ago in the under 15 girls race and moved up to the under 17 race this year to win the silver medal and lead the R&N team to victory. She recorded 19.38 over a distance of 4500m. Gabriella Moriarty added bronze to the silver she won last year in a time of 21.05, but in doing so defeated last years champion Charlotte Inwood who came 4th in 21.52. Lauren Byrd (5th in 22.14) and Megan Love (6th in 23.35) were the final two athletes for the club.

Although the under 15 boys never finished a team it saw reigning under 13 champion Jack Murphy win the title in his new age group when he was timed at 17.45 for 4.5k and his clubmate Tom Charteress clinched the bronze with 18.18.

The under 13 boys team won the silver medals with Ben Musgrove also claiming silver in the individual race when he completed the 3k course in 13.30. Backing him up in the team was Kyran Wilson in 6th with 14.18 and Christopher Male (7th in 14.51). Jay O’Leary was timed at 15.13 for 9th position.

Georgia Willix led home the under 11 girls in 4th place with 9.48 over 2k and making the team with her was Poppy Carmichael in 7th with 10.30 and Olivia White 8th in 10.42, which gave the trio the silver medals. Also turning out for the club were Millie Mason (11th in 11.00), Isabella Fowler (13th in 11.19) and Charlotte Valentine (16th in 11.57).
