National Junior League Round 1 - 24th April

Winning Start to season at Tamworth

Rugby and Northampton’s under 20 and under 17 athletes started the 2010 track and field season in awesome style with a emphatic win in the first meeting of the National Junior League on Sunday 25th April.  The club won the meeting with 462 points to Central Mercia’s 392 – 7 clubs in all took part, Team CDAV, Derby AC, Corby AC, Nuneaton Harriers AC and Team Arrows.

Among many good performances during the day for the men were wins for Courtney Douglas (11.6) and Ben Lees (11.4) in the 100m, Rory Grant (4:15.7) and Kieran Garlick (4:28.3)in the 1500m, James Wright (16.8) in the 110m hurdles and Ryan Cleaver (60.8) in the 400mHurdles.  In the field events Ben lees and James Wright both won their long jump competitions with leaps of 6m50 and 6.07 respectively.  Craig Murch also helped the team along with a respectful 41m75 throw in the hammer.

For the ladies, Charlotte Inwood (5:10.4) and Eleanor Barnes (5:22.4) won the 1500m, Gabby Moriarty and Emily Waugh won 3000m in 11:03.6 and 11:06.1 respectively.  Charlotte Burrows came first in the 100mhurdles and Katie Rowe won the High jump with a new personal best of 1m55.  Katie also started the season well with a significant jump of 10m79 in the triple jump and Kerry Murch won the long jump with a leap of 4m89.

Finally the Rugby and Northampton sprinters won both the men’s and women’s 4x100 relay events rounding off a very good day for the clubs first match of the season.
