NATIONAL JUNIOR LEAGUE – 2008 SEASONS RESULTS
Review by Alison Allee of this years campaign in the Trent Division
This year has been a good year for Rugby and Northampton AC in the National Junior League. We have had more athletes than ever competing in the League and consequently have had good results, despite the sometimes atrocious weather, Leamington was nearly a wash out! The Team ended the year in 4th place in the Trent Division of the League. This is our highest placing for a number of years.
It has been a privilege for me to manage the team this year with Andrew Storer. Andrew has been a great support, encouraging all the athletes to compete in as many events as they can, sometimes even trying something new and, of course gaining PB’s in these events. The Team has benefitted greatly from his input.
It has also been wonderful to watch the great achievements of our athletes. We had 5 athletes who achieved the best performances in the Trent Division as well as the women’s 4x100m relay squad achieving the fastest sprint relay time by over 2 seconds:
Charlotte Burrows (u17) 200m 25.5
Emily Waugh (u17) 3000m 10:51.1
Emma Cluely (u20) 100m hurdles 16.0
Shelley Hazlewood (u17) Long Jump 5m22
Zoe Ash (u20) Hammer 46m18
Women’s Sprints 4x100m Relay Squad 50.8
Two athletes achieved the second best performances in events during the season:
Charlotte Burrows 100m 12.3
Edward Hill (u20) 1500m 4:09.9
Sam Cullinane Javelin 37m94
We also had 3 athletes who achieved the third best performances of the season in the Trent Division:
Natalie Hills (u20) 800m 2:22.3
James Eaton (u20) 110m hurdles 15.9
Sophie Meakin (u17) long jump 5m18
These are excellent results for the athletes and the club – Very well done to all of them. As well as the athletes mentioned above other athletes on the team achieved PB’s in their events and I would like to congratulate them all on their successes and the high standards they have achieved. I would like to give special mention to some of the athletes not mentioned above Adam and Luke Storer, Andy and Jonathan Brown, Daniel Bennett and Matthew Emery, who supported the team excellently, competing in quite a few events for the first time. Also Chelsea Thompson, Briony Banks, Emma McGowan, Hannah Oliver who turned out in the pouring rain to compete for the team. Many of our athletes competing in this league are still under 17, which gives me high hopes for the future of our club in this league. The general standard of competition is high and our team is one of the smallest in the field, so our athletes have done extremely well to achieve such a high placing in the four matches undertaken.
A big, big thank you to all the athletes who competed in the team during the year and I am looking forward to managing the team next year, when hopefully, we will go from strength to strength.
