Midland Masters Championships, 22nd January

Droitwich

Michael Aldridge was the outright winner of the Midland Masters Cross Country Championships when he covered the 8km three lap course at Droitwich in 29 mins 26 secs. The former Wootton road runner now representing his new club Rugby & Northampton took the title by 17 secs from fellow M35 athlete Steve Bazell of Stoke. This result came by way of a last lap surge after Aldridge, 38, was content to run alongside his rival for two laps.

Winning the bronze medal in the M45 category was Greg Spellman who finished 9th overall in 31.12.

The R&N Ladies won team gold in the W45 competition, which saw Angela Copson once again win the over 60 race in 28 mins 8 secs for the 6km distance. She crossed the line in 16th place and joining her in that winning team were Kate Williams in 29th spot on 28.50 (W50 4th ) and Tricia Garner 44th (W50 6th ) in 31.57.

Barbara Parkinson completed the medal winning haul by sealing third place in the W60 event when she recorded 34.05 in 49th place.
