BMAF 2011 Indoor and Winter Throws Championships
Golden Girls
Rugby and Northampton athletes struck gold again in the British Masters indoor pentathlon championships held at Lea Valley, London. Returning to their success of 2010 Sally Hine and Lesley Willis retained their National titles in the gruelling all day, five events, of the women’s pentathlon and in the process posting new indoor bests.
Sally undertook the O60 age group and produced a personal best in every event; 60m hurdles 12.16s, High J. 1.12m, Shot 6.36m, Long J. 3.18m, and the final 800m 3:34.03s, despite not finally running until 7.30pm. This showed nearly 500pts improvement on last year, breaking the 3000 point barrier and placing her 2nd on the all-time rankings with 3217pts.
Lesley in the O45 age group also produced a new personal best in the Hurdles 11.14s, but the High jump was down 3cm on last year 1.24m. Her other events were all slight improvements on 2010, Shot 6.97m, Long J. 4.13m, 800m 2:45.66m scoring a winning total of 2943pts, up on last year but shy of the 3000 barrier.
However as there is an age related category for each year over the 45 age group Lesley actually achieved around 3200 as she is in the middle of the age band.
