Weedon 10km - Tue 21st June

Robinson leads men's team to victory

Luke Robinson made his first appearance in an East Midlands Grand Prix Road Race and had a superb run to finish in 7th place in the Weedon 10k in a time of 36 mins 8 secs. The 18 year old Rugby & Northampton athlete was one of three under 20 Men to finish in the top seven, but Robinson led home his club to help the Mens team finish in 3rd place on the night.

The seventh race in the series, Weedon is arguably the toughest course, but it does finish with a fast downhill section. Paul Birch also made the top ten for the club in 10th spot on 36.20, but it was Greg Spellman who had the biggest success on the night by claiming the overall M45 title with one race still remaining. He finished in 17th position with 36.57, but his second place in the age group was enough to win the series.

Completing the Senior Mens team was Ben Malia in a time of 37.39 for 25th place and he was followed by three club stalwarts that made up the Veteran team. Brendan Moen finished 29th in 38.05, then came Terry Egan in 38.18 for 31st position and second in the M50 race and crossing the line in 35th spot was Vince Carroll in 38.44. These three joined Spellman to put the Veteran’s in second place in the team race.

Angela Copson made it seven wins out of seven in the F60 section as she led home the R&N Ladies in 6th place overall with 41.59 and will now miss the final race as she prepares to fly off to the USA for the World Masters Track & Field Championships.

Once again, Daisy Melville was the second lady home for the club and second in the F35 category when she finished in 18th place on 44.45 and closing off the team was Rachel Shaw in 21st on 46.20, which placed the Ladies in second spot. Barbara Parkinson gained another runners up spot in the over 60 race with 52.25, but along with Copson and Melville they also finished second in the Veteran team competition.

Completing a clean sweep for the F60 group was Gay Tresler in third with 58.22 and she now has a chance of snatching third overall in the final race at Milton Keynes on July 5th.
