Veteran Ladies 2nd Overall
Greg Spellman led home Rugby and Northampton AC in the Milton Keynes 10k road race to finish in 20th place in the final event of the East Midlands Grand Prix Series. The fast flat course saw Spellman record 35 mins 38 secs to finish in the top twenty in all six races he competed in and although he finished second on the night in the M45 category the overall Series victory was already sealed in the previous race.
Terry Egan completed the Series for the 15th time in his long career and dipped under 37 minutes with 36.55 in 36th spot. Although Egan wasn’t able to match the superb performances by Wootton’s Lazloe Boden he nevertheless finished second in the M50 competition for the Series and in doing so notched up his 85th race in the East Midlands Grand Prix.
The next man across the line was Neil Willsher in 72nd position with 39.29 and this gave him 19th in the Senior Mens event for the Series and making the Mens team for the third time this year was Neil Martin who recorded 47.34 and also finished 19th in the Series for the M50 category. Joe Horsley closed off the Veteran team with 51.58 to get a Series finish of 14th in the M55 race.
The R&N Male teams had their lowest ever overall placings with the Seniors finishing 7th and the Veterans 5th.
The Ladies fared better with the Veterans finishing second overall and the Seniors in third.
First over the line for R&N was Veteran Daisy Melville in 15th place with 42.26 and was followed by Madeleine Smith 34th in 45.56 and Veteran JoLove 42nd in 47.49, which put the Ladies in 3rd place on the night. Joining Melville and Love in the Veteran team was Gay Tresler with 56.38 and her second place in the F60 race gave her third for the overall Series. Valerie Cross got a final placing of 5th in the same age group, but she did clinch third on the night with a time of 65.43.
Also taking part at Milton Keynes were Sally Mills (90th in 57.00) for 16th Senior lady overall and Nicola Durose (96th in 59.08), which placed her 8th overall in the F35 competition.
Although not taking part on the night Lisa Johnson claimed 8th in the F40 category for the Series and Jayne Partridge 5th in the over 55’s.
