World Ranked Javelin Thrower signs for R&N

Aussie Champion links up with local club

Excellent news for Rugby & Northampton Athletic Club for their forthcoming Track & Field season. Team Manager, Roy Humphries, has signed up one of worlds leading Javelin Throwers, who will be able to compete for the Club in their National League campaign. 26 year old Kathryn Mitchell, who hails from Australia, arrived in the UK last September, and has been working at Millfield School in Somerset, as a fitness teacher. Kathryn is the current Australian Javelin Throwing Champion with a personal best throw of 58.81 metres. That currently will rank her No. 2 in the UK behind Goldie Sayers, who finished 4th in the Beijing Olympics last year. Kathryn, having spent the last 4 months in the UK, has returned to Australia, for what is now their summer season, and she will compete and train there, for 3 months, and will return to the UK the end of March. Kathryn will be then able to compete for the Club the their first UK Women’s Athletic League match on the first Saturday in June at Cardiff. If all goes well in the future, then Kathryn could feature in the London 2012 Olympics. Kathryn’s joining the club follows on from the successful spell which Christian Stradzala spent with the club last year. Both were students at Geelong University in the state of Victoria, and her visit will hopefully continue to strengthen the links between the two clubs.
