Stephen Emery breaks course record
This year’s annual running of Rugby & Northampton AC’s Hampton Cup attracted only 12 runners – slightly disappointing, but there’s a lot of other races on at present.
The field set off in cool conditions with the overnight’s rain under foot. Steve Emery continued where he left off last year by going straight to the front in a determined bid to retain the trophy and better last year’s time. He turned the race into a personal time trial and knocked a minute off last year’s time and broke the course record finishing the 4 mile course in 20 minutes 10 seconds. There was then over a minute to wait for a sprint finish between Jamie Sewell and Paul Birch with the former gaining second place by 2 seconds.
