Veteran Men 2nd
Greg Spellman led home Rugby & Northampton in the Corby 5 mile road race held at East Carlton Country Park when he finished in 17th place in a time of 28 mins 40 secs. The fourth race in the East Midlands Grand Prix Series includes a last mile hilly climb into the finish area and Veteran Spellman won the M45 category for the second race in a row.
Fighting his way back to full fitness the club cross country champion Paul Birch dipped under 29 minutes with 28.59 in 18th position and Ben Malia had a good run in 23rd spot when he recorded 29.22.
Completing the Mens team was Terry Egan in 36th place with 30.12 and the 50 year old finished second in his age group.
Joining Spellman and Egan in the veteran team were Vince Carroll (49th in 31.06) and Guy Petersen (54th in 31.21), which gave them 12th and 13th respectively in the M40 category.
Neil Glover clinched 3rd spot in the M55 section when he recorded 33.39 in 102nd place.
The R&N ladies saw Angela Copson finish in 4th place with 32.35 to make it four wins in the F60 competition. She is now one race away from winning back the title she won in 2009.
Madeleine Smith was the second lady home for the club in a time of 38.52 for 30th position and Tricia Garner was 3rd in the over 50 race to complete the team with 39.45 in 34th spot.
Closing off the veteran team was Jayne Partridge in 64th place on 43.53 and Gay Tresler was second in the F60 age group with 45.36.
