UK Indoor Champs, Sheffield - 14/15 February

Bronze medals for Bailey & Wallader

The European Trials & UK Indoor Championships were held over 2 days in Sheffield at the English Institute of Sport High Performance Centre.  The Trials were by “invitation only” for the UK’s leading Track & field Athletes, and Rugby & Northampton Athletic Club had 6 invited athletes, and all six athletes made their final..

Two athletes ended up with Bronze medals, and the best performance came from sprinter Emma Bailey who finished 3rd in the Final of the 200m race, behind former Olympic 400m finalist, Donna Fraser.  Emma recorded a time of 24.58 secs, and fellow Club mate Ellena Ruddock, who won the bronze last year, was 4th in 25.19 secs, having recorded 24.91 secs in her semi-final.  Vicky Barr withdrew from the Final having drawn the unfavorable Lane 1 inside lane draw.  Vicky recorded a season’s best time in the semi-final for 3rd place in 23.96 secs.

The other bronze medalist was Shot Putter, Rachel Wallader, who a good sequence of Putts, and her 5th Round attempt of 14.34 metres was good enough to secure her medal.  The other two finalists were Sophie Hine in the High Jump, where her leap of 1.75 metres was just below her best PB, and that meant that she finished 5th.  In the Men’s 800m, Damion Moss had made the Final by winning his heat in a time of 1 min 50.42 secs, but he had to settle for 6th place in the Final, which was a disappointment having finished 2nd last year.  Damion’s Final time was 1 mins 50.10 secs.

In the Women’s 60m, Emma Bailey was 3rd in her heat in 7.58 secs, then improved in the Semi-Final to 7.57 secs to reach the Final where she finished 8th in 7.66 secs.  Also in the heats, Vicky Barr was 5th in her heat in 7.76 secs and Ellena Ruddock was 6th in her heat in 7.93 secs. but both were unable to progress further.
