5 Rugby Ladies appear in the final
Five of Rugby & Northampton AC leading lady Senior athletes made it to the Final of the UK Challenge held at Eton. This event has been included in a number of meetings throughout the season and points were awarded for performances. At the end of July those athletes who had totaled the most points from their 4 best performances were invited to the Final, and eight athletes from each event took part. With prize money also available the standard was sure to be intense.
In the 200m, Ellena Ruddock ran an excellent bend, but the last 30 metres proved her undoing and she had to settle for 5th place in a time of 24.72 secs. Ellena also made it the final of the 100m together with teammate Emma Bailey, and in a blanket finish, Ellena finished 4th in 11.96 secs, just 0.08 secs behind the winner and Emma was 5th in 12.05 secs. In the 100m hurdles event Gemma Werrett was 3rd in 13.54 secs, confirming her great season. The were also 4th placing in the Triple Jump for Claire O’Reilly, with a leap of 12.21 metres, and for Sophie Hine in the High Jump with a leap of 1.71 metres.
With just the Final of BAL Knock-Out Cup still to take place on 6th September at Bedford the season will draw to a close.
