Clean sweep for Angela

Alison Cooper led home the R&N Ladies in the final race of the East Midlands Grand Prix Series at Milton Keynes. In hot and humid conditions she covered the 10k course in 40 mins 57 secs to finish in 7th place and helped the Ladies team to finish second on the night.

The F60 champion Angela Copson duly made it eight wins out of eight in her category and finished just 11 seconds behind Cooper on 41.08 for 8th spot. Completing the Ladies team was another veteran Alison Rose-Quirie who recorded exactly 48 minutes in 27th position and this put the Senior Ladies in 3rd spot in the overall series.

Linda Carter clinched the F55 title by making it five wins out of five and came home in 29th place on 48.56.This performance also earned the Veteran Ladies second place on the night and third in the series, while Barbara Parkinson came 2nd  for the fifth time behind Copson in the F60 section with a time of 51.41. The F65 race saw Pat Francis gain another victory in 71.11.

Running in his 80th Grand Prix road race it was fitting that Terry Egan should lead home the R&N Men when he was timed at 37 mins 37 secs for 29th place. This placed him 3rd overall in the M45 category. Brian Summers worked his way through the field to finish 31st in 37.50 and Dave James crossed the line in 40th spot with 38.27. This left a situation where both Summers and James tied for 4th place in the M45 section for the overall series.

The Senior team was closed off by Vince Carroll in 46th position with a time of 38.46 and although the squad only finished 4th on the night it was enough to hold on for 2nd place in the Series. Greg Spellman completed the Veteran team in 59th on 39.23 to put them 2nd on the night, but of course they were already the overall champions.
