Overall team win and club records smashed

Rugby and Northampton AC had a good day of athletics on Sunday 26th April 2009 at the first National Junior League meeting of the season held in Corby.

The Team won the match overall with a total of 431 points and had 23 first placed athletes, 14 second placed and 8 3rd placed athletes across all the events.  R and N AC won 3 out of the 4 relay events with the men’ 4x100m team smashing the club record with a time of 44.9 seconds while the women’s 4x100m team equalled the club record of 50.9 seconds.

There were excellent performances in many of the events.  In the men’s team Themba Luhana ran is first 110m hurdles in an awesome 14.9 seconds – a personal best for him and a new club record.  Another personal best was Ross Allen’s time of 50.1 in the 400m, then he ran 23.2 in the 200m.  Courtney Douglas came second in the 100m with 11.4, Luke Storer ran 23.9 in the 200m.  Alex McKie threw 47m33 to come 2nd in the Javelin (a PB for him at a heavier weight) and Daniel Bennett won both the Triple jump (12m27) and the Shot Putt (9m44).  Luke Robinson put in a good performance to come second in the 3000m with 9:28.6.  Other athletes who helped the team to their success were; Rory Grant, James Eaton, Tom Johnson, Robert Male, Matt Finigan and Ryan Cleaver.

In the Girls team Rugby and Northampton had wins in the 100m A and B String with Charlotte Burrows (12.5) and Emma Cluley (13.1), the 400m A and B with Sophie Wright who ran a PB of 59.5 and Sophie Meakin who ran 62.6.  Then wins in the 800m – Gabriella Moriarty (2:27.0), 1500m –Eleanor Barns (5:11.4) and the 3000m – Emily Waugh (11:03.1).   There were more excellent performances from Charlotte Burrows and Kathryn Reynolds in the Javelin – 32m41 and 29m69, then Elycia Metaxus-Belt in the Discus (36m69).  Zoe Ash won her hammer competition with a throw of 37m46.  The team were helped to victory by Katie Rowe, who won the triple jump with 10m39, Charlotte and Rebecca Davies, Hannah Oliver and Shelley Hazelwood.
